Some great Youth performances, with 5 youth riders (Elena-Rose Fereday, Jude du Toit, Jed Smithson, Josh Giddings and Lotta Mansfield) unbeaten after 3 events. The extended race distance for the older riders – getting a 30 minutes plus race midweek – seems to have gone down well. The standout performance of April must be the Leicestershire RC U14 boys who ripped the field apart on a windy night to claim the top 5 finishing positions. Congratulations to Jed Smithson and Josh Giddings, as well as leading their leagues at Mallory they also top the BC National rankings for their age groups.
Senior racing has been equally strong on 3 very different circuit configurations. The second 4th Cat only race recieved generous sponsorship from Websters Cycles in association with Specialized, enabling us to offer a £200 prize list – not bad for a midweek 4th cat race and higher than estimated number also enabled us to stir things up a bit in the first 3/4 cat race of the season by offering lap primes. All 3 races have so far ended in bunch sprints, each having very clear winners.
The clubs supporting the evening organisation in April have done a great job and set the standard for the 2015 season. Many hands making light work has never been truer!
All of the youth nights now have support in place from local clubs. Many thanks for this.
There are still 5 Senior nights without organising support. Reminder that if your club supports, all riders get a £3 discount off entry fees for every race. For smaller clubs/individuals we can co-ordinate composite nights. Please reply to this email if you’d be able to provide some organising support, the races can’t go ahead without this. Currently free nights can be seen by clicking here
The League in Numbers
With the increased costs faced this year its going to be a tough one financially, but the great turnout in the first 3 weeks as put us in a good place. We have already had more Youth riders take part than we had for the whole of the 2012 season, 3 times the number of riders at the same point as in 2013 and are about 10% up on last year. Some interesting numbers for the youths:
- 329 participations and 17 different winners
- 148 different riders representing 33 different clubs
- Around 30% of the riders are riding the Mallory League for the first time
Senior participation is also strong, running well ahead of our best hopes/estimates. The turnout on the first night was the biggest field we’ve had in 3 years. For the seniors:
- 259 participations
- 183 different riders representing 74 different clubs
- Around 60% of the riders are riding the Mallory League for the first time

Website, Mail List, Facebook
Almost 10,000 page hits since the league started confirms the value of our website. We’ve made a few more updates to it; when the results are viewed online the finish line video is now embedded and you can also access the list of competitors for each event.
The mailing list seems to be working well, with consistently high opening rates. It has also been updated so you can opt in/out for specific categories of mail. Update your preferences following the link at the bottom of this email.
The facebook group is now approaching 1100 members and continues to be a valuable medium to keep people updated on whats going on at the League
The Coming Month…
May sees the league start with some exciting new format Youth nights; Bonus League Sprints, Mini Stage Races and Double finish points. The older Youth age groups will also get their first taste of the full circuit.
In the Senior racing we see the first Handicap race of the season with £10 per lap every lap on offer to the rider crossing the line first, a couple more 3/4 cat races and then the main leagues starting for both Seniors and Women
