In addition to the Raleigh Youth League and Jewson Team League we will be having a Youth ‘Rider of the Year’ award this season.

With support from Cycle Division (Jonny Towers) and the Paramedics who provide our evening First Aid Cover (Graham Durant), prizes to the value of around £50 each will be awarded to 1 boy and 1 girl from each of the race groupings (U8/10/12 and U14/16).

Ideally I’d like Club Coaches who attend the racing on a reasonably frequent basis to make nominations for these awards. Criteria for the awards will be left flexible. For example, it may be Most Improved Rider, Most Aggressive Rider, Best Team Rider, Most Outstanding Performance or simply the rider who tries the hardest. Or any other criteria you choose…

If any of the Club Coaches who will be attending Mallory this year are interested in participating in this, then please message me and we can work out how we do it.

Youth Riders Parents Help

For parents of riders in the Youth riders – we are going to need some help from you this year.

Because of the numbers of riders, in order to maintain good levels of safety we need to seperate out u8/10/12 and u14/16 into 2 races. At the moment we are planning to run these as 2 races on the night, but to do this we are going to need a couple of parents each night to help with gear checking, which is now a BC tech reg, so the dispensation I had obtained from BC to skip this is no longer valid. All equipment and instructions provided.

We will also need a couple of parents per night to assist with lap counting/number taking as a backup to the commissaire.

If we don’t get some support the only alternative will be to drop one of the races each night and alternate age groups 1 week on, 1 week off. Based on last years attendance if every parent can contribute one race night either gear checking or lap counting that will be enough to enable us to run 2 races each night.

Any volunteers?

Thanks – Mike Twelves

I’m pleased to announce that Raleigh will be supporting the Youth League at Mallory Park this year. This is going to enable us to have league leaders Yellow jerseys for all youth categories, an example shown below. Many thanks to Raleigh for this support and to Jewson who are supporting the Team League

Leicestershire Legacy Fund Grant

Good news today, I applied for a grant from the Leicestershire Legacy Fund to improve the way we handle signing on and got confirmation today that it’s been successful.

The idea behind this is that when a rider signs on for the first time they get a number which they keep for the season and we capture all their signing on details. After that, those details will be preprinted on the signing on sheet, so signing on becomes find your name, show your license, pay your money and sign.

Because riders keep their numbers we don’t need to do license/number return at the end of the race. And because we’ve got riders logged in a database getting the results out and sorting league positions becomes much simpler.

So we make it simpler for the organising clubs on the night, easier and less queuing for the riders and significantly reduce the admin and results processing.
